Wood Floor Treatment
Wood floors are the perfect choice for anyone who wants to bring natural warmth into their home. However, it’s important to remember that wooden floors require ongoing care and protection to maintain their beauty and durability.
Wood has a naturally strong structure, can withstand a lot, and is therefore especially suitable for flooring. But at the end of the day, it is still a natural material that needs regular maintenance. In this guide, we’ll give you an overview of the best methods for treating wood floors, so you can keep them looking great for many years to come.
Why Is Wood Floor Treatment Important?
Wood is a living material that naturally reacts to its surroundings. It can dry out, become scratched, or lose its shine if it isn’t treated correctly. A proper treatment protects the wood from wear, dirt, and moisture, while also enhancing its natural grain and colour.
To maintain a wood floor and ensure optimal protection, we recommend our indoor universal oil: Oil Plus 2C. This interior oil can be used on all wood types and surfaces, and helps protect your wood floor while creating a beautiful finish.
Oiling a Wood Floor with Oil Plus 2C
Oiling a wood floor allows the oil to penetrate deep into the wood’s pores and create a durable surface, while still preserving the wood’s natural appearance. Treating your floor with our Oil Plus 2C interior oil provides excellent protection against everyday wear and scratches, enhances the natural grain, and keeps the wood strong and functional for years.
To begin oiling your wooden floor, start by cleaning the floor thoroughly using our Cleaner. If necessary, remove old varnish or oil residues by lightly sanding the surface.
Once the wood is completely dry, apply the oil evenly using a wide brush.
With Oil Plus 2C, only one single coat is needed thanks to its advanced molecular bonding technology. Apply the oil in small sections and wipe off any excess oil after a few minutes for each section.
The floor should then be left to dry for 12–24 hours. The surface can be cleaned again after 5 days, once the oil has fully cured.
Choosing the Right Products for Wood Floor Treatment
At Rubio Monocoat, we highly recommend our indoor oil Oil Plus 2C, as it is a universal oil that can be used on all wood types and surfaces. The oil is enriched with environmentally friendly and highly effective ingredients, and only one coat is needed for maximum protection.
Oil Plus 2C is available in a wide range of colours, meaning you can always find the perfect match for your wood floor.
When your floors need cleaning from time to time, we also recommend our selection of wood cleaners and soaps, specially developed for wooden floors without harsh chemicals.
How Often Should You Oil a Wood Floor?
Wood floor treatment should be done regularly depending on how much wear the floor is exposed to. In busy households, it may be necessary to oil the floor once a year, while less used areas may only need treatment every two to three years.
In general, your floor needs a new treatment if the wood looks dry and dull, if the surface feels rough, or if water is absorbed quickly instead of staying on the surface.
Ongoing Care for Wood Floors
To keep your wooden floor in great condition, proper maintenance is essential. First of all, keep the surface clean, as dirt and small stones can cause scratches over time.
We also recommend placing felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches when furniture is moved.
If the wood starts to lose its shine over time, it may be time for a new oil treatment depending on the amount of daily wear.
By maintaining your wood floors correctly, you ensure not only their durability, but also their natural beauty for many years to come.
